Warhammer 25th Anniversary model

Here's an unboxing and assembly video of the Rogue Trader tribute model GW released for the 25th Anniversary of Warhammer 40,000.  I first started 40k in the rogue trader era, although it wasn't in 1987, sk I feel a little nostalgia for this stuff.  I also picked up one of the posters and would like to frame it.  Anyway, here's the video...

Canis Wolfborn painting video

I decided to pull this out of the archives and put together a commentary video since the new plastic thunderwolves are coming out. I've got mine on preorder from miniwargaming.com and should be getting them in a week. In the mean time, here's some pics and a video of Canis Wolfborn.... who might actually see the table top (perhaps as someone other than himself).

Space Wolves Lists revisted

Well, now that there's a new batch of Space Wolves coming out I'm going to start revisiting the list I have painted up. I've ordered a set of thunderwolves from store.miniwargaming.com (sale on now) as well as the finecast banner guy.

High Elves Spearmen WIP 2

Here's another work in progress post for the high elf spearmen I'm working on. These guys are taking forever, but I'm getting close. I knew it would be a challenge, and I've been away from the painting table for a little bit, so its taking longer than it should. The big problem with this batch is that I'm going to have to do it again as I have at least another 40 to be assembled and painted if I ever want to get my high elf army completed.

Every time I go back to these guys I'm reminded of a commission I did back in high school. I painted up a batch of high elf spear men from whatever fantasy box was out at the time. That was way before washes, foundations and coloured primers, and I recall that it nearly drove me insane. But that was before I really enjoyed painting, and I was just doing it for the extra hobby money that the painting would bring...

OSL critique - Firebelly

Here's a link to an article from Ron at From The Warp about OSL featuring my attempt with the Ogre Firebelly I did a couple weeks ago. Some good feedback for anyone trying the technique, and highlights some of the areas I can improve for next time.

Brother Lemartes Tutorial

Another special character that I painted a while ago, but am only now posting a video. I used some of the techniques from white dwarf for the legion of the damned models for this guy. Lots of fun, and I'm happy with how he turned out.

Ogre mob complete

Here's that Ogre mob of 6 all done. I used the same paint scheme as the rest of my Ogres to help make them fit in.

Ogre mob WIP

Another unit in the pipeline... 6 ogres that I had previously stripped. These were part of an army that I bought and stripped at the same time I picked up some of the new kits. I'm using the same paint scheme as the other ogres, so I'm hoping to have a uniform looking army when I'm all done. I haven't done any tattoos on these guys or blood stains... Not sure if I'm going do that, but I might wait until I have a workable army before I go and add those details.

High Elves Spearmen WIP

This unit is going to take for ever, but won't be anything particularly special... 40 high elf spearmen. I used a silver spray paint base coat, so we'll see if that helps. I followed that with a black wash and am putting the base colours on now.

Ogre Firebelly Finished

After a couple work in progress posts, here's the finished model. Overall I'm pretty happy with him, and the fire as a light source was a cool learning experience. I'm actually more happy with the fire than the OSL look... I've never really had much success with the flame look, and I think this one turned out ok.

Outside of the paint job I'm pretty disappointing with the finecast aspect of this mini. For the price I'd expect something much higher quality, and this ended up having bubbles and seams all over. Not enough to call it a miscast, but disappointing considering the price. I've done a fair number of finecast models and as a whole the only upside I can see is that they are lighter (therefore don't need pinning) and easier to clean mold lines.

Blood Angels Furioso Librarian Dread

Another one from the archives (almost caught, honest)... this one is of the Furiosi Librarian Dreadnought. A neat model, decent on the table top, but not my favorite. Simple but effective paint job here.

40k Scenery - Craters

In this video I show how I mounted the GW vacuum craters on hard board (MDF) and painted them up. These are a great staple in the 40k scenery world and easy enough to make look presentable.
